Bremerton, Washington lies along the east side of the Olympic Mountains directly across Puget Sound from Seattle.  The waters of Port Washington Narrows bisect this waterfront city, creating the residential sections of East and West Bremerton. Located in Kitsap County, Bremerton occupies 26 square miles and holds a population of 30,150 (Census 2000 data).  Money Magazine recently designated Bremerton as one of the future hot spots among cities with less than 250,000 residents, and in 2002, ranked it #8 on its Best Places to Live in the West list (for areas with populations between 100,000 and 249,999).

The military presence is strong in Bremerton with the Annex of Naval Base Kitsap and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.  This makes for a highly technical workforce. Other sectors of employment include manufacturing, medical, retail, wholesale, and the service industries.  A revitalized economic base includes a new government center, a Transportation Center, and the Kitsap Conference Center. Colleges and universities in the area contribute to the skilled base of employees. These include Olympic College and several campuses of Washington State University.

Bremerton’s heritage includes military, Native American, Scandinavian, and pioneer influences, making for a culture rich base of tourist destinations.  Popular sites of historic interest include the Arts District, the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where visitors can tour the USS Turner Joy, the Bremerton Naval Museum, and the Kitsap County Historical Society Museum. Bremerton also hosts the annual Armed Forces Festival; first celebrated in 1938, this is the nation’s oldest festival of its kind.

Bremerton's unique shops, restaurants, and parks, include the pristine Harborside Fountain Park.  Other sites of interest in Bremerton include the Admiral Theater, Amy Burnett Gallery, and the Gold Mountain Golf Complex.  This city owned course, rated among the nation’s finest public golf courses, was the site of the 2006 Public Links Championship. Bremerton also features a block-long waterfront promenade ideal for leisurely walks through the town, while a sixty-minute ferry ride opens up the panoramic views while en route to downtown Seattle.

Located along the Kitsap Peninsula, Bremerton is this region’s largest city.  The Peninsula, in the heart of Puget Sound, is surrounded by more than 300 miles of shoreline, between the Cascades and Olympic Mountain ranges.  The metropolitan areas of Seattle and Tacoma, and Portland, Oregon are nearby, with three National Parks also within driving distance.  Bremerton also has easy access to amenities and shopping in Vancouver and Victoria, Canada

Bremerton, Washington offers a wide variety of housing options with median prices less than half that of homes on Seattle’s side of the Sound.  Choices range from luxurious waterfront homes with mountainous views, to apartments and single family homes on quiet cul-de-sacs. Bremerton boasts quality schools, low crime, and top-notch medical facilities.  Such an outstanding quality of life draws people to the Bremerton area from Seattle.
